1. What is KLEE?

The Kerala Law Entrance Examination (KLEE) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. KLEE is held for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate law programs in government and private law colleges across Kerala. It is the primary exam for admission to the 3-year LLB program and the 5-year integrated LLB program.

2. Course Details: 5-Year Integrated LL.B. & 3-Year LL.B. Programs

Here’s an overview of the two courses offered

A. Integrated Five-Year LLB Course

  • The Integrated Five Year LLB Course is a double degree integrated course that combines Bachelor’s degree course in any discipline (BA, B.Com or BBA) with Bachelor’s degree course in Law. The course is designed as per the rules framed by the Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act, 1961. The degree obtained after successful completion of the course shall be recognized for the purpose of enrolment as Advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961.
  • The duration of the course is a minimum of five academic years.
  • The course of study in Law shall be by regular attendance for the requisite number of lectures, tutorials, moot courts, and other practical training.
  • Admission to the course will be regulated on the basis of merit as assessed in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE).

B. Three-Year Unitary LLB Course

  • The Three Year Unitary LLB Course is a course leading to the Bachelor’s Degree in Law in conformity with rules framed by the Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act, 1961. The degree obtained after successful completion of the course shall be recognized for the purpose of enrolment as Advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961.
  • The duration of the course is a minimum of three academic years.
  • The course of study in Law shall be by regular attendance for the requisite number of lectures, tutorials, moot courts, and other practical training.
  • Admission to the course will be regulated on the basis of merit as assessed in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE).

3. Eligibility Criteria for KLEE

Before applying for KLEE, it’s essential to check the eligibility criteria. Here are the eligibility criteria for KLEE:

For 5-year LLB Course

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India. However, only those candidates who are of Kerala origin are eligible for any type of reservation or any fee concession.
  • Candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or any other examination recognised by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent thereto.
  • A candidate who has passed an examination in 10+2 Course of schooling recognised by the educational authority of the Central or State Government or possesses such academic qualifications which are considered equivalent to such 10+2 course by the Bar Council of India can also apply for admission to the course.
  • Applicants who have obtained +2 Higher Secondary pass certificate or first degree certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission. The applicants who have obtained 10 + 2 or graduation/post-graduation through open universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission.
  • Candidates who are appearing/ appeared for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the Pass Certificate and Mark List of the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
  • No candidate shall be admitted to the Course, unless he/she has passed the qualifying examination with a minimum of 45% marks. However, candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes need only 42% marks and those belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes need only 40% marks in the qualifying examination. No rounding off of percentage of marks to the nearest higher integer is permitted. 
  • The applicant should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31.12.2026. There is no upper age limit.

For Three-year LLB Course

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India. However, only those candidates who are of Kerala origin are eligible for any type of reservation or any fee concession.
  • Candidate should be a graduate in any faculty of any University in Kerala or of any other Universities, recognised by the particular university in Kerala to which the college that the candidate desires to get admitted is affiliated, as equivalent thereto. If the colleges being considered by the candidate for admission are affiliated to different universities, it’s the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the university and faculty from which he/she has obtained the degree is recognised by the universities concerned. Otherwise, the candidate should obtain the required eligibility certificate from the universities concerned, well in advance, as the time period for completing the admission process after announcing the allotment result may be inadequate to complete the formalities for obtaining eligibility certificate.
  • A candidate who has passed the Bachelor’s Degree examination with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (i.e., 45% marks for all the parts of the Degree Examination taken together) shall alone be eligible for admission to the Three year LL.B course. However, candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes need only 42% marks and those belonging to the Scheduled castes/Scheduled Tribes need only 40% marks in the qualifying examination. No rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest higher integer is permitted. Applicants who have obtained a first degree certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission. The applicants who have obtained graduation/post-graduation through the open universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission.
  • Candidates who are appearing /appeared for the qualifying examination (regular examination of 2025-26 academic year) are also eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the Provisional / Degree certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark lists of all parts of the qualifying examination at the time of admission. 
  • There is no lower age limit for admission to the Three-year LL.B course. There is no upper age limit.

4. How to Apply for KLEE

The application process for KLEE is conducted online. Here are the steps to apply for KLEE:

  1. Visit the official website of the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. (https://www.cee.kerala.gov.in)
  2. Register for KLEE by providing your name, date of birth, email id, mobile number, and password.
  3. Fill in the application form with your personal and academic details.
  4. Upload scanned images of your photograph and signature.
  5. Pay the application fee. Application fee for General and SEBC candidates is Rs.850/- and in the case of SC/ST candidates and those eligible for SC/ST benefits is Rs.425/- 
  6. Take a printout of the application form for future reference.
